Flow Chart Conventions

Course Overview

The aim of this module is to introduce students to the conventions that are used in the flow charting techniques, which are used in crime and intelligence analysis. The course is ideal for those wishing to gain an understanding charting techniques, without completing an intelligence course to produce and analyse them.

Course aim

To provide an overview of charting techniques and assist the student gain an understanding of various types used in analysis.

Objectives

At the end of this module the student will be able to:

1. State what the different flow charting techniques are.
2. State the difference between working and presentation charts, and between intelligence and evidential charts.
3. Use the various charting conventions correctly when creating the different types of flow chart.
4. Create a style sheet.
5. Interpret flow charts.
6. Describe the matrices conventions.
7. Describe how matrices are used to assist in the construction of flow charts.

The module is covered in a seven part video presentation with a manual available in written form.

The video presentation is intended to be the learning source with the manual as a written backup to knowledge.

Crime & Intelligence Analysis – Level 3 (Advanced)

Course Overview

This course is suitable for analysts who have already successfully completed level 1 and 2 courses as it assumes that students are already familiar with the fundamental analysis issues, It would also be beneficial that the analyst has 6 months to 1 years further experience. An acquaintance with basic excel skills will also be helpful.

Instruction continues on from the level 2 course and several new topics are introduced including case analysis, problem solving and introduction to geographical profiling. Several case studies are introduced and students will have the opportunity to put their knowledge to the test in various practical exercises.

NOTE: You will need to complete the basic and intermediate course before you can sign-on for this intermediate course.
